Cricket is back in the limelight, and there are many important events happening at once. The so-called “Gentleman’s game” has seen its fair share of bitter rivalries, hard-fought tours, and nail-biting action.

With each passing year, teams are getting better and better and in turn, the competition is only rising. This year it isn't just going to be men who have a lot to achieve, there are several women’s cups on the line, and teams have been eagerly waiting to get back on the pitch.

From the legendary Ashes tour to the ICC World Cup, everything is on the line. An action-packed year awaits us, Cricket fans, so let’s get after it and discuss the top 10 Cricket events due for 2023.

10. ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 - June 7th to 11th

We know you want to get into the T20s and the One-Day matches, but we need to discuss this incredibly important match that’s happening as we write this article. Australia and India are to duke it out between themselves to find out who will take the World Cup for Test matches.

The match is happening in the famous Oval in London, and both teams have had a hard time getting to the finals this year. The Aussies have started strong with 73 runs off of 2 wickets in 23 overs and look to be in good form. The action isn’t going anywhere till June 11th, so be sure to check in periodically to support your team.

The World Test Championship has long been dominated by New Zealand and Australia, and India hasn’t won a single Championship yet. This makes the final all the more interesting to see whether or not they manage to get their first ICC World Test Trophy.

9. The Ashes - June 16 to July 31

Every two years, the English and Australian Cricket Teams duke it out through 5 test matches. This year is no different, as the Ashes are set to begin this month on the 16th and go on till the 31st of July. England is going to have to square up their spinners if they want to have a shot at the Ashes this year.

As we all know, the last series, 2021-22, was won by Australia, which makes their total amount of wins 34, two more than the English. Under Pat Cummins, the Aussies have shaped up a good squad with veterans like David Warner, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith, with many new promising players to take on England.

The English team under Ben Stokes also has Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, and others isn’t looking too good at the moment, but they have plans to add a few spinners to the squad.

8. ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023 - June 18 to July 9

Countries that are even remotely serious about the sport know that the ICC World Cup is the most prestigious competition in international cricket. To even qualify for entry, a team must have an incredibly versatile team that is ready to take on giants in the sport.

The ICC World Cup Qualifiers are going to be an important watch for any enthusiast of the sport, irrespective of whether or not your country is participating. Many exceptional countries like West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands will have to go up against each other to finalize just two entries in the league.

That’s not all; many other countries like the USA, Scotland, UAE, and Nepal have been steadily gaining momentum with strong teams, which might give the others a lot more trouble than you would expect.

7. Women's Ashes 2023 - June 22 to July 18

Women’s Cricket has been gaining a lot of momentum ever since it got its own series. Starting on June 22, we will see the English Women’s team take on the Australian Women’s Team. Although it wasn’t called the Women’s Ashes till 1998, the rivalry between the two teams has been going on ever since 1934.

The English team headed by Heather Knight has been mediocre, to say the least, consistently drawing matches against Australia and India.

However, the Australian Women’s team has been quite a success beating out the West Indies women’s team, the Indian Women's Team, and many other big names. Don’t let that make you think it’s going to be a landslide victory for the Aussies, though.

Seamers like Lauren Bell and Kate Cross are sure to put pressure on the Australian Women’s Team. This is a must-watch for cricket enthusiasts, as it’s going to be a tough match for both teams.

6. Major League Cricket 2023 - July 13 to July 30

The success of the Indian Premier League has made T20 a very competitive sphere that is as action-packed as it is unpredictable. America’s answer to that is the MLC which started back in 2006 and has seen quite the competition since.

Six teams will be duking it out with each other, with some prominent names like Quinton de Kock, Aaron Finch, and Shehan Jayasuriya all pitching in to make Cricket a mainstream sport stateside.

Although the fixtures aren’t out yet, the draft has been completed, and many new names have entered the sport. Only time will tell if these teams have what it takes to capture America’s attention.

5. The Hundred Series - August 1 to August 27

The Hundred Series

Is T20 getting too boring for you? Why not try out The Hundred Series, which, as the name implies, has just 100 balls in one innings? Started recently in England in 2021 and modelled after the IPL, the Hundred Series shuffles a lot of the rules, which makes it interesting to watch.

The rules have been simplified with 100 balls in session and a change of ends after 10 balls. Eight teams compete in the tournament, with all men’s and all women’s matches held at the same ground and at the same day.

Regional rivalries dominate this game, with Oval Invincibles winning the women’s finals twice and Trent Rockets winning the 2022 men’s game.

If a break from traditional cricket sounds fancy to you, you might want to give the 100 series a try. However, for the purists out there,  we’d recommend skipping it. You have been warned!

4. Caribbean Premier League 2023 - August 16 to September 24

The eleventh iteration of the Caribbean Premier League is a great way to experience the booming Cricket scene that the five Caribbean countries have. It has all that you’d expect from that part of the world, a colorful crowd, an exciting atmosphere, and players from Barbados to Jamaica and beyond.

Jamaica Tallawahs took the trophy last year, beating out Barbados Royals by a narrow margin, and they would want revenge this season. Players like Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, and Faf du Plessis were on top of their game last season, and it remains to be seen how well they will perform this year.

Catch the St Lucia Kings take on the Jamaica Tallawahs on August 16th, which would mark the beginning of the CLP 2023 season. The venue is going to be an advantage for St Lucia as they will be playing on home turf, but Rovman Powell and the Jamaica Tallawahs are looking stronger than ever.

3. ICC Asia Cup 2023 - September 2 to September 17

South Asia has been a massive hub for cricket fans for decades now. Asia Cup is just one way the countries get to participate against one another as a preparatory series before the 2023 World Cup. This year Pakistan is the host, and Nepal qualified for entry through the ACC Men’s Premier Cup.

The games are going to start off strong as Group A has India, Nepal, and Pakistan, while Group B has Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. People who hate the longer format of Test matches but feel like the T20s are too short are gonna love the ODI format, with each team getting 60 overs per side to shine.

Sri Lanka won the 2022 Asia Cup, and this year the fixtures mean there’s tough competition ahead of both India and Pakistan to qualify from the Super 4 to the final. Both teams have had a historic rivalry, and India lost last year to Pakistan in the Super 4 stage.

2. Indian Premier League 2023 - March 31 to May 28

The Indian Premier League might have concluded for 2023, but the action was absolutely unforgettable. The finals between GT and CSK aside, the entire playoffs were a sight to behold. This is why we had to include it as the second-biggest event in Cricket in 2023

Batsmen have always had an edge in the IPL, but this year the scores were absolutely insane, crossing 200 runs multiple times. Shubman Gill and Faf du Plessis scored the most runs, and watching highlights of their innings will make any seamer blush. Bowlers also had their share of glory, with Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja taking over 20 wickets.

Gujrat Titans had the most successful run this season, and with players like Shubman Gill, David Miller, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammad Shami in their team, its safe to say their squad was one of the best in the tournament right next to CSK.

1. Cricket World Cup 2023 - October 5 to November 19

Finally, coming to the most important event in Cricket that comes once every four years, we have the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. The 13th edition of the prestigious tournament is set to be held in India from 5th October this year.

The 2019 World Cup was quite the tournament, with prominent teams like South Africa and West Indies failing to reach the semi-finals. Safe to say the pressure on all teams is going to be immense as England snatched the 2019 World Cup from New Zealand with the boundary rule rather than more runs. India and Australia also qualified for the semi-finals but had to go home empty-handed.

The teams have been constantly tweaking and updating their players to get an edge, and it remains to be seen how they perform this year. With millions of eyes on the tournament, the least you can expect is a show worth remembering for the next four years.

That concludes our list of the top 10 Cricket events to look forward to in 2023. Be it T20, ODI, or Test Cricket, 2023 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years for cricket, with the potential to have some of the best games we’ve seen in recent memory.

Live cricket is everywhere, from smaller leagues like Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League to prestigious names like the legendary Ashes Series and the ICC World Cup.

Thrilling encounters between rivals and unforgettable matches are waiting for us all this year. Which tournament are you most excited about in 2023? Although we all eagerly await the T20 World Cup, there is plenty of Cricket out there in the meantime!
